Privacy & disclaimers
Plain-language terms for how your documents are handled and what the analysis does and does not mean. Please read this before uploading a bill.
What this tool is — and is not
- The analyzer is an educational self-help tool from The Patient Insider. It surfaces potential billing issues for your own review. It never confirms a billing error, coding violation, overpayment, refund owed, or fraud.
- It does not provide medical, legal, insurance, tax, or professional medical-coding advice, and it creates no professional, attorney-client, or business-associate relationship of any kind.
- It cannot see your medical record, your plan's contract, or the provider's documentation. A charge that looks unusual may be fully justified by information you have not shared.
- It does not determine what you owe. Your health plan's Explanation of Benefits (EOB) and your provider's itemized statement remain the authoritative documents.
- Outputs are generated by an AI model from a photo or PDF and can be incomplete or wrong, including misread codes, dates, and dollar amounts. Always verify every figure against the original document before acting.
What we do with your upload
- Files are transmitted over an encrypted connection and processed to extract text, line items, and potential findings.
- Without an account, your analysis lives only in your current browser session. Closing or leaving the page discards it; nothing is retained on our side.
- With an account, only analyses you explicitly save are stored, in a private record readable solely by your account under row-level access rules.
- Uploaded documents kept for saved analyses live in a private storage area that is not publicly reachable.
- You can delete any saved analysis at any time from your analyses list; deletion removes the stored record and its stored document.
- We do not sell your data or your uploaded documents to third parties.
Minimize what you share
- Black out or crop your name, date of birth, address, member ID, and Social Security number before uploading. Codes, service dates, units, and amounts are what the review needs.
- Only upload a bill that is yours, or one you have clear permission from the patient to review.
- Do not upload records for another adult without their consent, and do not use the tool to review documents you obtained without authorization.
- For minors or dependents, upload only if you are the parent, legal guardian, or authorized representative.
Third-party processing & privacy
- Document text and images are sent to an AI model provider for the sole purpose of producing your analysis and letter draft.
- The Patient Insider is not a HIPAA-covered entity and is not offered as a HIPAA-compliant service. Do not use it for professional, clinical, or institutional workflows that require a business associate agreement (BAA).
- If you prefer that no data leave your device at all, do not upload a bill — this tool cannot analyze a document without sending it for processing.
About the dispute letter
- Letters are editable drafts, not legal filings. Read every line, correct the details, and remove anything you cannot support before sending.
- The letter asks questions and requests verification. It does not allege fraud and does not cite statutes or regulations.
- Sending a letter does not pause collections, stop interest, or extend a payment deadline. Contact the billing office directly about timelines, and keep dated copies of everything you send.
- Disputing a charge does not relieve you of any legitimate obligation and does not guarantee any particular outcome, refund, or adjustment.
- For disputes involving significant amounts, denials, or collections, consider a professional medical billing advocate, your state's department of insurance, or a qualified attorney.
